Diane White is a South African artist whose work is shaped by mood, memory, and the distinctive atmosphere of the landscapes around her. Her paintings balance recognisable subjects with expressive colour and movement.

From gallery walls to demonstrations and community events, Diane’s art practice reflects both technical experience and a willingness to keep exploring new subjects, techniques, and mediums.

Biography

Diane was born and educated in Manchester, England, where she studied art under Harold Riley, one of England’s top artists. She arrived in South Africa in 1971 and worked for many years as an architectural draughtswoman in Somerset West before taking up painting again in the mid-1990s.

Her work hangs in many private collections around the world. She is represented in various galleries in South Africa and has her own gallery in Stilbaai.

Approach & Subject Matter

Diane loves to experiment with different techniques, styles and media so that her work is constantly evolving and changing. Her dynamic subject matter includes landscapes, cityscapes, wildlife, portraits, floral studies and flow art.

Even though her work continues to evolve, she has an individual and recognisable style and is always open to new ideas and techniques.

Awards & Exhibitions

2020: Landscape / Dreamscape / Seascape — Solo Exhibition at Bright Street Gallery, Somerset West.

2018: Top Gem in the Western Cape Artists’ Society “Little Gems” exhibition; highly commended (Watercolour) and commended (Acrylic) in the WCAS Annual Merit Exhibition.

2017: Highly commended (mixed media) in the South African Society of Artists’ Annual Exhibition.

Diane White continues to paint, exhibit, and share her process with fellow artists and collectors. Her work is recognised for energetic brushwork, atmosphere, and a bold use of colour across landscapes, florals, wildlife, portraits, and flow art.

She is also active in the local art community, regularly taking part in exhibitions, demonstrations, and gallery conversations that celebrate expressive South African art.
